KYC verification on Liqwifi
Why we verify you
Know Your Customer (KYC) helps Liqwifi confirm that you are who you say you are, reduce fraud, and meet regulatory expectations. Your verification tier also determines wallet balance caps and daily activity limits. See the article on account tiers and limits for the numbers.
Verification flow
First, BVN (Bank Verification Number). We validate your BVN with our identity partner and may enrich your profile with verified name and date of birth from authoritative records.
Second, facial verification. After BVN succeeds, you complete a selfie check. Your selfie is matched against identity data so we can upgrade you to Tier 1.
Third, NIN (National Identification Number). This unlocks Tier 2 after successful validation against official records, using the name and date of birth already on your profile where applicable.
Fourth, address verification. For Tier 3 you submit your Nigerian address, proof document type, and a proof image in a standard encoded form (JPEG, PNG, or PDF as accepted in the app). This goes to manual review, typically within 24 to 48 hours. When approved, your account is treated as fully verified for tier purposes.
You can check current tier, limits, completed steps, next step, and any pending address review from the KYC status screen in the app.
Rate limits on automated checks
Automated steps for BVN, facial verification, and NIN are throttled to reduce abuse: up to 3 attempts per verification type per rolling hour. If you hit the limit, wait and try again. Failed attempts still count toward this window.
Verification history
You can view a chronological list of verification events (type and status) from the KYC history section in the app.
Consent and address proof
Address submission requires explicit consent: you must confirm you agree to proceed. Accepted proof document types include utility bill, bank statement, tenancy agreement, and tax receipt. Use a clear, legible document that matches the address you enter.
